A strong Google Business Profile helps cleaning business owners show up when nearby customers search for services like house cleaning or office sanitization. Owners in the United States and Canada use the same free Google tool to control how their company appears in maps and local results.

Claiming and Setting Up the Profile

Start by visiting the Google Business Profile website or app and searching for your business name and address. If the listing already exists, claim it with your business email or phone number. New listings require verification, which Google usually completes by postcard mailed to the service address within roughly one to two weeks in both countries. In Canada some owners also receive a verification code by phone or email more quickly, while United States businesses usually rely on the postcard method first. Once verified, fill every field with accurate details: business name exactly as registered, full street address, service area cities, phone number, and website. Add hours that match your actual schedule, including seasonal changes for holiday deep cleans.

Choosing the Right Categories

Select one primary category that matches your main work, such as “House Cleaning Service” or “Commercial Cleaning.” Add up to nine secondary categories that reflect actual offerings like “Carpet Cleaning” or “Window Cleaning.” Avoid unrelated categories that could confuse the algorithm or attract the wrong leads. Canadian owners should confirm categories against provincial business registries to keep names consistent, while United States owners cross-check against state licensing boards. Primary category choice carries the most weight for local ranking, so pick the one customers most often type into search.

Adding High Quality Photos

Upload clear exterior and interior shots of cleaned spaces, team members in uniform, and equipment. Include before and after images for specific jobs such as kitchen degreasing or restroom sanitization. Aim for at least ten to fifteen recent photos and refresh them every few months. Use landscape orientation for cover photos and portrait for additional views. Both United States and Canadian listings benefit from geo-tagged images that show location accuracy. Customers click photos more often than any other profile element, so label each image with descriptive text like “Post construction debris removal in Toronto office.”

Creating Regular Posts

Publish short updates at least once a week. Share limited-time offers, seasonal tips such as spring allergy cleaning, or how-to videos on stain removal. Posts appear in the profile and can include a call-to-action button that links to a booking page. Keep text under five hundred characters and add one relevant photo or short video. United States owners often highlight same-day service in major metros, while Canadian owners may note bilingual service availability in Quebec or British Columbia. Consistent posting signals an active business to Google and keeps the profile fresh in search results.

Managing Questions and Answers

Review the questions section weekly and answer every new inquiry within twenty-four hours. Common questions cover pricing ranges, pet-friendly products, and availability for last-minute commercial jobs. Write clear, friendly replies that include your service area and a next step such as a phone call. Turn on notifications so you never miss an item. Owners in both countries see higher conversion when answers appear quickly, because Google displays recent responses near the top of the profile.

Driving Visibility in the Local Map Pack

Complete and active profiles rank higher in the local map pack, the group of three to five listings shown on maps and search results. Google favors profiles with accurate categories, many photos, recent posts, and prompt Q&A responses because these signals show relevance and reliability to nearby searchers. A cleaning company that maintains all sections typically appears ahead of competitors with sparse listings, even when service quality is similar. In both the United States and Canada the map pack favors businesses inside the searched city or service area radius, so keep your listed service areas updated to match actual coverage. Regular activity also improves chances of appearing in voice searches on mobile devices.
